GENERAL
All ferrous castings manufactured by LeBARON FOUNDRY, INC. are of uniform quality, free from blow holes, shrinkage, distortion with a smooth surface well cleaned by a shot blasting process. All castings are manufactured true to patterns. Heavy duty round frames and covers have a continuously machined bearing surface to minimize rocking and/or rattling. All dimensions are in inches; all weights are in pounds. LeBARON FOUNDRY, INC. reserves the right to change dimensions, weights and general designs contained herein at any time without notification.
QUALITY
LeBARON FOUNDRY, INC. has the capability to manufacture gray iron castings to meet a wide range of customer requirements. While the general industry standard for strength of materials remains ASTM A48-83, Class 30B specifications with a minimum tensile strength of 30,000 PSI, we see a movement toward Class 35B at 35,000 PSI tensile and we can pour to that standard, or in fact Class 40B when requirements so dictate. Our iron control procedures are detailed elsewhere in this catalog.
Actual dimensions of all castings have a tolerance of + or – 1/16 inch and an additional + or – 1/16 inch per foot of dimension. All frames, covers and grates of the same pattern or catalog number are interchangeable. Casting weights are approximate and are within + or – 5% of published weights.
TRAFFIC LOADS 1) Heavy Duty – Designated for highway loading conforming to AASHTO H20/HS20 loading conditions (16000 lb. wheel load).
2) Medium Duty – Designed for driveways, parking lots or other areas where wheel loads do not exceed 4000 lbs.
3) Light Duty – Designed for non-traffic, pedestrian areas such as sidewalks, basements and parks.
The most commonly accepted criteria for highway loading comes from “Standard Specifications for Highways and Bridges” published by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO). This specification defines the H20 loading condition as a two axle load is 32000 lbs. or 16000 lbs. for each set of dual wheels. In addition AASHTO recommends that these loads be increased by an impact factor of 1.3.
All LeBARON heavy duty castings are designed to meet or exceed this loading criteria by a minimum safety factor of 2.0. In fact, most heavy duty castings have safety factors in the 3.0 to 5.0 range. LeBARON routinely proof tests its various cross sections in a laboratory environment to insure we meet or exceed these standards. Please contact our Engineering Department if you have concerns about loading factors.
Extra heavy duty castings for airports or other special applications can also be furnished. These castings can be designed, manufactured and proof load tested to withstand heavy concentrated loads. Contact our Sales Department with your specific needs.
COATING
Due to environmental concerns, LeBARON castings are furnished with no coating. Coating of castings does not provide significant protection to cast iron but merely serves as a cosmetic coating to the casting. In most cases, it would conceal defects that may be visible on casting with no coating. Asphalt paints and thinners contain volatile organic chemicals (VOCs). Air emissions coming from surface coatings operations contribute to air pollution and the decay of the earth’s ozone layer. If mandatory, LeBARON still has capability of applying asphalt coating.
LIMITED WARRANTY
LeBARON FOUNDRY, INC. products are warranted to be free from defect for a period of one (1) year from the date of delivery to the original purchaser when properly used and installed.
The buyer agrees and acknowledges that the seller has no control over the final use or installation of any products. The buyer, its agent or assignee, agrees to indemnify and save the seller harmless from any liability or obligation incurred by the buyer to persons injured directly or indirectly in connection with the use of such products.
LeBARON FOUNDRY, INC. disclaims any responsibility for the proper selection of a product and for its installation and subsequent use.
All claims must be submitted in writing by the original purchaser within thirty (30) days of the date of loss. LeBARON FOUNDRY, INC. may replace the product or refund the purchase price as the sole remedy under this limited warranty.
